Dravid’s Flamboyant Innings @ Adelaide

This is one of my favorite post on Rahul Dravid ! Yes it is about one of my favorite innings of Mr.Dependable !!!
It was in the summer of 2003, the much awaited clash ‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy’ has begun. The first Test at Brisbane got drawn in which the Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly has scored a brilliant century.  Following it, the second Test begun at Adelaide with an anticipation as both the sides were looking for a winning mark. Australia has won the toss & chose to bat on a pitch that supports batsmen. Aussies had put up a majestic score of 556 on the board which included an astonishing double century from Ricky Pointing on Day 2. On the Indian Side, Kumble took a five wicket haul. The scorecard looked too supportive for the home side.

Few hours before Tea of Day 2, in came the Indian openers Akash Chopra and Virendar Sehwag. They set a 50 run partnership but both the openers parted away back to back. India’s Score at Tea was 81-2. In came the Dravid at number 3. Here comes an imperative innings for India. Dravid played at his own pace and striked boundaries-  two fours at the cover and one straight drive . At the end of Day 2, India was on stumps at 180/4.

Day 3 started with a century partnership between Laxman- 56(111) and Dravid – 41 (92). After a steady start, Dravid crossed his half century mark which was his 30th in Test Career. Then he went on to smash boundaries over the covers and leg side which led him slowly towards his century. While at 98, dravid faced a bouncer which he shattered into a six at the leg side making him to cross his 16th Test Century, what a way to reach a century , there he is leaving everyone clueless 🙂 Indian Batsman went on to score runs steadily and at the end of Day 3, India crossed the 400 run mark including Dravid’s 150 plus.

Rahul Dravid crossed his 200 run mark by hitting boundary on the first ball of Day 4.His double century includes 20 boundaries and a Six. This was Dravid’s 4th double century. I the innings, India was all out for 523 runs in reply to Aussies 556 runs.

Aussies were all out for 196 runs in the second innings, leaving India with a target of 229. Agarkar rocked with the ball in the second innings by taking 6 wicket. Amidst the blistering sun, the crowd were excited as the match went on to sneak peak.

India’s second innings started off on Day 5 , were they left 50 runs on the board in 15 overs. At lunch India was at 180/2. Dravid scored 72 his yet another half century with flamboyant  boundaries . While India needed 1 run to win, Dravid fnished off in style with a boundary and yes India won the match against Aussies after 20 years and led the series with 1-0 🙂
